The Italian rider Riccardo Stacchiotti (Giotti Victoria) has won the first stage of Il Giro di Sicilia in a bunch sprint, 165km from Catania to Milazzo, ahead of Manuel Belletti (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) and Luca Pacioni (Neri Sottoli Selle Italia KTM), wearing the first Maglia Rossa e Gialla (red and yellow jersey) of general classification leader.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and first Maglia Rossa e Gialla, Riccardo Stacchiotti, said: “The stage was very hard, after the climb the leg were good and I tried to do a good sprint, it’s amazing. In the final kilometres my teammates brought me in to the best position and I took Belletti’s wheel and in the last 200 meters I did my best and managed to win!”
