Everything is ready for the third Il Giro di Sicilia Eolo that will take place between April 12-15, starting in Milazzo and finishing at Mount Etna, with a route that suits the characteristics of many types of riders.
The Start List
Among the top favourites for the Maglia Giallo Rossa (Yellow/Red) are Vincenzo Nibali, Damiano Caruso, Domenico Pozzovivo, Louis Meintjes, Diego Rosa, Jefferson Cepeda, Kenny Elissonde and Andrii Ponomar.
Other stage hunters include; Vincenzo Albanese, Chad Haga, Matteo Moschetti, Matteo Malucelli, Alessandro Fedeli, Simone Velasco, Benjamin King, Simone Petilli and Filippo Fiorelli.
The Trophy, that is awarded to the Winner, embodies the symbol of the Sicilian Region par excellence – the Trinacria – in a stylised shape, coloured in Yellow, Red and Pistachio Green, reminders of the Sicilian territory.
Speaking ahead of the race, Winner of the 2021 edition, Vincenzo Nibali said: “It’s a big pleasure for me to come back to Il Giro di Sicilia, my home race. I feel like it is an important step in my preparation for the Giro d’Italia and I am coming here with the goal to test my condition and to get the racing rhythm after a break and a training camp on altitude. I have only great memories from my last year win here in Sicily, it was something absolutely special for me. Now we are here again and I have a strong roster around me, so I hope Astana Qazaqstan Team will show something good during these four days.”
his year’s race follows a varied route suited to the characteristics of every type of rider: sprinters, finisseurs and climbers. Less than a month later, the island will welcome the ‘Caravona Rosa’ of the Giro d’Italia, arriving from Hungary, with Sicily hosting the rest day and the first two stages on Italian soil after the Grande Partenza.
